Payyoli Express Of India, ‘P. T Usha’

Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha or as we call her P.T Usha was born on 27th June 1964 in Payyoli, Kozhikode District, Kerala.

She is a former Indian Track and Field athlete who started her career with indian athletics in 1979.

she has made india proud in many athletics events.

Facts:

  1. She was nicknamed Golden Girl or Payyoli Express and queen of Indian track and field because of her amazing performance.
  2. Coach O.M Nambiar noticed her in National School games of 1979 and trained her from thereafter.
  3. she participated in Olympic games from 1980-1996, barring 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
  4. In 1980 Olympics, she was the youngest sprinter at the age of 16.
  5. She is married to V. Srinivasan who is an inspector with the Central Industrial Security Force in the year 1991.
  6. She has got 3 awards.
    1. D.Litt. (Honoris causa) in 2018
    2. Padma Shri in 1985
    3. Arjuna Award in 1985
  7. Usha took retirement from athletics in the year 2000 and opened her sports academy in Kerala.
